(Cultural Notes)
"Not my cup of tea":
"Each to their own" / "Whatever floats your boat":
"I'm not fussed":
Marmite(一种酵母酱)是英国经典例子——人们要么爱它要么恨它(You either love it or hate it)。
(Dialogue)
A: Do you want to order pizza or Thai tonight?
B: I'm easy, to be honest. What do you fancy?
A: I'm quite partial to Thai, actually. That new place on the high street is supposed to be really good.
B: Oh, I went there last week. The green curry was brilliant, but the pad thai was a bit average.
A: Good to know. I'll go for the curry then. Are you not a fan of spicy food?
B: I like a bit of spice, but not blow-your-head-off spicy. You know?
A: Ha, fair enough. Medium it is then.
A: Have you seen the new Nolan film?
B: No, I'm not really into sci-fi, to be honest. It's not really my thing.
A: Really? I thought everyone liked Nolan. What kind of films are you into?
B: I prefer comedies and rom-coms. Something light, you know? I watch films to relax, not to think too hard.
A: Fair enough, each to their own. Did you see The Holdovers? That was quite good.
B: Yes! I absolutely loved that one. Giamatti was brilliant in it.
A: See, we're not that different after all.
A: Do you want to meet at the pub or the coffee shop?
B: Pub, definitely. I can't stand coffee shops — they're always too loud and I can never get a seat.
A: Oh, I love coffee shops! There's something about the atmosphere — the smell of coffee, the background chatter.
B: Each to their own, I suppose. Give me a quiet pub with a pint any day.
A: Fair enough. The Red Lion it is then. Same time as usual?
B: Yeah, see you at 7.
